We celebrated Easter at Grammy and Grampy's house yesterday. The whole clan was there, and after dinner Ken distracted the kids in the TV room while Aunt Erin and I hid some plastic eggs Grammy had put together. Each child got six eggs, and once they were all found I helped Laurel open hers up. The first one had a dollar bill and a couple coins.
"Ooooooohhhh....ahhhhhhhhhh," Laurel sighed. "Dragon food!"
(I should explain here that the kids don't yet know what money is. Since I never carry cash, the only time they actually see money is when I have a random coin to put in their piggy bank - a dragon piggy bank with a coin slot in its mouth. Hence, money is called "dragon food.")
Laurel and I set aside the first egg and reached for another. We opened it...and found another dollar bill and some coins.
"More dragon food!" she exclaimed.
We opened the third egg, and the fourth, and the fifth and sixth. All contained dragon food. But as each prize was revealed, Laurel became less and less enthusiastic. By the last egg she was visibly disappointed, with an "Is that it?" expression on her face. We moved on to the Easter basket Grammy had gotten her. Pencils (boring), Pez candy (which she doesn't like), a box of sidewalk chalk (that I wouldn't let her open)...she wasn't very thrilled. But then at the bottom we saw a nondescript round metal tin. I helped her open it and inside found a small bag of M&Ms.
"CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!" she screamed.
And all was right with the world.

Kind of when you open socks for a Christmas present...not so exciting. But m&m's can make up for a lot. Happy sits :)
A girl after my own heart! :)
Great story. And somehow it only makes it better when the last thing found is CHOCOLATE! Congrats on your SITS day.
Oh yeah....chocolate....
Is there anything better?
May they always be so easy to please.
How cute! Totally sounds like a girl, too!!!!
I can totally relate. Chocolate makes EVERYTHING better!
Chocolate always makes everything alright for me too
Hey, I'm with her! Chocolate always make everything seem brighter. =) Although I think I would be happy about the "dragon food" too.
Thanks for sharing a sweet story, and happy SITS day! =)
Chocolate.
Makes the world go round. :)
Congrats on being the FB today at SITS.

That's so cute!
Saying hello from SITS!
Hi from SITS! :) Cute story...I love dragon food. :)
I need more dragon food AND chocolate in my life. For the record, the Easter Bunny creeped my daughter out.
Now, there's a girl who has her priorities in order! Good job, Mom. :)
Happpy SITS Day.
Loving the "dragon food". Too cute - but very glad she found some chocolate too!!!
Haha, how cute! Kids are too funny. Congrats on being the FB on SITS!!

Glad to see she has her priorities right at such a young age. What adorable children you have!
Happy SITS day!
My middle son sounds just like her. Chocolate makes the world all right. ;)
Happy SITS day!
I think the love of chocolate is something all women are born with. Happy SITS FB Day! Thanks for the smile this story gave me.
Oh my goodness... a girl after my own heart!
She definitely is a girl and knows what she wants.
Happy SITS Day.
A sign of a truly wise girl: she can pick chocolate out of a line-up.
Totally glad you're the featured SITS blogger :) This was priceless.
Hey....I totally understand a girl wanting chocolate! Cute post.
Now THAT is one smart girl!
I can relate with that feeling more than you know!
Happy SITS day! This made me laugh. Very cute!
Chocolate!!!!
I'd say she's got her priorities in order. You're raising her right ;) Happy FB day.
A girl after my own heart. :o)
stopping by from SITS. love your posts.
Such an adorable moment! In a few more years those priorities will quickly change!
Enjoy the SITSta love today!!
I'm going to have to agree with Laurel - what's Easter without the chocolate? In my case, it's chocolate peanut butter marshmellow eggs, but at the end of the day any chocolate will do :)
That's how I feel when I get chocolate too LOL
i'd be asking for the chocolate too! ;) but i think my kids' first thought would be "YAY, a trip to the collar store!" :)
happy sits day!
Gotta ove it! A girl after my own heart!
Ah yes. Chocolate can cure anything. :)
She's definitely got her priorities straight. I'm very much into the plastic-is-money world since that's obviously where we're going...I hadn't thought about what it would mean for my (future) children! I like the "dragon food" though.
Chocolate makes everything better!
Hey there SITSa...yes....chocolate is the healer of al things...it rights all wrongs.
Love it! I guess girls are "hardwired", too!

We're born with it I think! One of my DD's when she was very small found an empty wrapper in my purse. She smelled it (for whatever reason) and then said, "Chocolate"! No idea how she knew that but it cracked me up! :) Enjoy your day in the SITS spotlight!
Smart girl! Glad to see she's starting out early.
Cute post, I agree everything is right with the world when I have chocolate.
I'll take some Dragon Food with a side of M&M's please!
that's funny
Visiting from SITS
Don't you just love the honesty of kids :)

Dragon Food! Too funny!
Too cute!! Chocolate is the answer to everything! happy SITS day!
The dragon food concept is too cute!
Chocolate! Who can't relate?!
I fully understand!
I would have done the same thing. :)
Hmm, chocolate over money, huh? Freud might say she has an oral fixation. Me? She's a hedonist in training. You go, baby girl!!
Hooray for chocolate!
I have the exact same priorities. Money? Meh. Chocolate? Pass it over.
Being a goat, I don't get the chocolate thing but I have seen the publicist in a haze after eating this stuff.
Happy SITS day!
She's my kind of girl! Happy SITS Day!
That is sooo cute she calls is dragon food!
Jamie :)
I will never think of money as anything else now!
"Do you have any dragon food?"
"It's good to keep some dragon food on hand in case there is an emergency."
Chocolate makes me very excited as well! Happy SITS day.
My kind of gal too!
Have a great SITS FB Day!
Dragon food...so cute!
If we grew up instead of out for eating lot's 'o chocolate, I'd be 72 feet tall! Very cute story!
I'm with her!! CHOCOLATE.

Happy SITS day!
That's awesome! But "dragon food" is super cute too.
All is right whenever chocolate is involved!
Doesn't chocolate make everything in the world right? Very cute kids.
Happy SITS day! Wouldn't it be nice if she always preferred chocolate over dragon food? Remind her of that when she's about 16. :-)
Now that's my girl!
A girl after my own heart for sure! Happy SITS day!
Hahahahaha I love "dragon food"!!!!
A true woman at heart already!
Congrats on being FB. I am a day late as my computer was down and out.
Great post..dragon food..too funny.
That is too funny! There really is nothing that can take the place of chocolate. :)
LOL! Dragon food...very cute!
Hee hee hee! My daughter is the same way.... "random silver circles? What do I do with these???"
When I was a kid I definitely appreciated the dragon food, but the M&Ms were better. Malted milk balls, however? No thank you. The texture creeps me out.
Ahhh, a girl after my own heart!
I love the "dragon food" thing. It is so funny how each family has their own sayings or words for things. Absolutely adorable.
I love it! dragon food! my kids don't know yet what money is either...my daughter wanted to give her dollar BACK to the tooth fairy, so she could get her tooth back!!!
Ah, a girl after my own heart!
I have a son with nut allergies, which basically means all Easter candy is out. We always do candy-free baskets. My kids don't know any better (yet), but I'm always disappointed!
Thats so great! Here from SITS!
That girl sure knows what's good for her already! HEHE!! Congratulations a few days late for being the featured blogger!
